Errol Inwood and Ron Rutherford first opened Woodford Glen Speedway in 1974.

The Woodford Glen Speedway Association, or The Club purchased the business in the early 80's, and has grown to run SuperStocks, Super Saloons, Streetstocks, Modifieds, Stockcars, Saloons, Production Saloons and Ministocks.

The name Woodford Glen was derived by combining parts of the founder's surnames (Inwood & Rutherford). Glen was included due to their liking of the famous Watkins Glen track in the states. Errol Inwood and Ron Rutherford first opened the speedway in 1974. Club members dug deep and advanced personal funds in the 1980's to enable The Club to purchase the business.
